Club Lexus was at the Los Angeles reveal of mid-cycle refresh and got an up-close look at the modern, sleek new styling and improved tech.

Our sister site Club Lexus recently attended the unveiling of the 2020 Lexus RX and RXL in Los Angeles. The reveal took place at a special media-only event on May 29 at Playa Studios in Culver City. Lexus showed off the new RX lineup, and it looks fantastic. The major changes for 2020 are to the exterior as well as the Lexus Multimedia System. There were also improvements to the standard safety features, as well.

The overall impression is that this new RX looks dynamic, offers a more responsive ride, and has greatly improved and easy to use on-board technology.

“It looks really upscale, really nice,” says Club Lexus writer Jake Stumph in his video for Club Lexus. “Very premium.”

The new grille is simply great looking. Designers created this based on an L-motif, each individual block has a different shape and angle to create a varying form. These fresh angles and design of the grille surround continues throughout the entire vehicle design. The front and rear fascias have been revised, there is a new emblem for the grille, standard 18” wheel design, and slimmed down head- and tail lights. The rear lights also utilize the L-motif. A very nice aesthetic.

But the real story is the updated technology.

“The biggest takeaway is the big infotainment screen,” say Stumph in his Club Lexus coverage. An available 12.3-inch touchscreen is paired with a larger remote touch pad, and supports voice and navigation functionality. Additionally, the updated Lexus Multimedia System paired with that massive screen now includes advanced in-dash technology such as Apple CarPlay integration, and Android Auto for your phone.

“In addition to the standard 8-inch display, the optional 12.3-inch high-resolution, split-screen multimedia display is a brilliant upgrade,” Club Lexus declares.

“I like how they made the track pad larger, and the screen larger as well, which makes it much easier to use,” says Stumph. “It seems much quicker and much easier to navigate.”

Of course, the ride itself is smoother. Updates to the front and rear stabilizer bars, shock absorbers, and upgraded dampers promise better handling. While a stiffer suspension and active corner braking ensure a more responsive, quiet, and stable driving experience.

Safety is also upgraded with the inclusion of a suite of standard advanced safety features. The Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 adds daytime bicyclist detection and low-light pedestrian detection along with Road Sign Assist (RSA) and Lane Tracing Assist (LTA).

Two F Sport packages are available. The updated F Sport package includes the latest active variable suspension (AVS) system that’s more responsive than previous systems. The F Sport package also includes cold air intake, active sound control, Electric Power Steering (EPS), and a heated steering wheel. In addition to the interior colors offered, a new and very sharp Circuit Red bolstered seating with grey stitching on the seams is available.

“The F Sport looks fabulous,” Stumph says, especially impressed by the rich red leather, and how it goes nicely with the black interior.
